A wet morning’s breakfast in Forsyth Missouri!

worksWith October 2016 just barely begun, a nice soaking rain greeted the 5th day of the month! I arose early, not out of any real desire to do so, so much as due to my various aches and pains. (Inflamed joints and sore tendons should maybe be seen as a badge of honor that one acquires after a certain number of years on this earth. In that case, I consider myself duly honored). My early thoughts on this particular day was that the weather was only adding to the problems of getting around…

Being a male, and thus by definition lazy, I decided to hoof it over to a local dinner for breakfast rather than fix it myself. My choice of venue on this day was Charlie’s Ribs, Steak and Ale aka C’s. When I arrived, shortly after the 8AM hour, I was greeted with only a smattering of fellow diners some of whom I knew from previous sojourns. I ambled over to a booth in the smoking section, not out of any desire to smoke (I’d give that up sixteen years ago), but more out of sheer habit than any thing else. Slowly and with no little effort, I sank into my seat while emitting a groan or two. Not too very unlike the Titanic as it must have slowly settled beneath the waves after an icy rupture. My vision shimmered for a second and then cleared. (Whenever that has happened, I’ve wondered if perhaps I’d shifted from on parallel universe to another). Everything looked the same, but was it really?

In due course, my server-slash-waitress arrived, a pot of coffee in hand to take my order. Now of meal selection, I’ve found I have very little imagination and so I tend to order the same thing time after time. ‘Give me the Works, sunny side up, white toast, bacon, A1 sauce and jelly for my belly”, I intoned smoothly due to much practice. The woman scribbled something on her little pad which I suspected read something like, ‘One old farts meal with boobs and bacon.’ I watched her walk away and slowly sipped my coffee. Outside the streets were wet and the sky sullenly overcast. Swell. I thought to myself.

While I waited for my meal to arrive, I considered the dietary impact of what I was about to consume; two eggs, 2 slices of toast, hash browns, four strips of bacon and may a little tub of grape jelly. Hmm, that came to over 800 calories! I began to sweat and squirm in my seat… my vision blurred again… and I awoke in bed!! It had been just a bad dream! The clock read 6AM and I wondered what I was going to have for breakfast? Hmm, maybe I’d go over to C’s…..
