Amazon and Steam games – not a very good bet!

ImageAfter recently purchasing a game from a site at Amazon, I discovered that it would only run on the Steam Game Engine. That set an alarm bell off in my head as I’ve heard more and more rumors that the company is in trouble and the people paying are its client base. My other clue was that this organizations Customer Service has no phone number! (That should have been a hint!)

Sure enough, after coughing up $40, the game would not download even after many repeated tries. A trip to their customer service site would only allow for me to send a form letter which would not accept a reason for a problem being that their servers would not download a game! I had to come up with a bogus credit card issue in order to submit the complaint! Also, a call to Amazon resulted in them telling me that is was my tough luck to have ordered a ‘steam product’ and that unless I could get some corrective action out of them, I could kiss my money goodbye!

OK, so I felt I was swindled out of some money – My fix was simple – no more Steam purchases (or any other purchases for that matter) from Amazon in the future. I’ve decided to make my future purchases from Rakuten (formerly Buy.Com).
