Watch out for specials on meat!
A word to the wise; red meat prices may begin falling over the next several weeks as ranchers cull their herds in anticipation of a dramatic increase in the cost of feed. They may do this as a reaction to reports of a widespread crop failure in corn and soybeans this fall.
Meat that has been properly package (vacuum packed) and stored in a deep freezer can stay there indefinitely, however the quality of the food will suffer over time (see chart at right). As is evidenced in the chart, steaks can stay frozen and retain their quality for quite a length of time. By watching circulars for specials and taking advantage at the right time, you might save a bundle of money. (As a side note, ground meats like hamburger which were not listed in the chart will deteriorate pretty rapidly after about four months, so plan accordingly).
If the crop failures are really severe this year, also look for across the board increases (5-15%) in many canned and packaged goods as corn and corn byproducts are used in many items.
Say goodbye to Obama!
Man oh man; you, Mr. President and Joe Biden, are a real pair when it comes to shooting from the hip! Your latest gaff, when you remarked that “If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that”, was not well received by small business owners nationwide. This idiotic statement was very similar to the phrase “I can see Russia from my house”, (a phrase that Sarah Palin actually never made, but which helped to sink the election chances for McCain in 2008).
That short sentence, I predict, will hang around like an engorged pimple right up until election night in November. Our beloved President has managed to enrage quite a number of large organizations over the past year (Catholics, Christians, Hispanics and now small business owners) with still over a hundred days of campaigning yet to go. Man, we’re sure going to miss you…
Empire Electric can do no wrong!
After asking for yet another 5% increase (the third in just four years) which, if approved, will add up to a 23% increase overall, I stand aghast. The reason they cite for the extra money was all the damage that was done this last spring when a tornado tore up Branson Missouri. Huh? I thought that’s what insurance is for! You do carry insurance don’t you Empire?
So, I have to ask. Is this not, in reality, another excuse for price gouging. Ya think you can squeeze Americans like they were a roll of Charmin? Had our Congressmen invested a little bit more in energy infrastructure over the years and not so much in growing a bloated and cancerous bureaucracy, then maybe this post would never have to be made. As it is, at a time when everything is going up in price and the dollar is worth less and less, we must endure this most questionable activity.
