So…. after hanging out in Second Life for a year now, I find that even though unemployed in both worlds, I am working harder than ever as the possibilities of in-world unfold themselves. Some days, I’ve spent six hours working my butt off with much more to do and learn. Right now I’m learning LSL with stand for Linden Scripting Language and is the programming language used by residents of Second Life, a virtual world by Linden Lab. LSL scripts can control the behavior of in-world objects. LSL utilizes syntax similar to C programming language. Once you gain some experience you can do all sorts of fun things like make and object give someone a link to their blog site, or make a sign rotate or whatever your mind can come up with. In the picture the small pyramid on my desk actually rotates, changes color and then opens a window showing this blog site when you touch it. Cool!
If you not into scripting languages, you can elect to go to one of a hundred scripting shops and by what you need using Linden Dollars. Some scripts are even free such as can be found in the Free Script Library (see insert). A store that provides all kinds of ways to get stuff done without becoming a complete geek!
